Tale of Two Cities Lecture Notes

Said by Tony Williams

  • 3 cities involved (Manchester)
  • 1857- Dickens assisted his friend in writing of the play, "The Frozen Deep"
  • Self-sacrificed is a plot line that transfers from "The Frozen Deep" to Tale of Two Cities
  • Many characters from "The Frozen Deep" are transferred over into Tale of Two Cities
  • Doubleness of character is a main point in writing Tale of Two Cities
  • In 1788, Dickens divorced his wife PUBLICLY
  • Many disturbing sights haunted him for years
  • Dickens wrote about London like a newspaper.  (there but disconnected)
  • London is a labyrinth
  • Paris made a HUGE impression on young Dickens
  • Paris was perfect in his eyes
  • At the end of Tale of Two Cities, Dickens wrote about the changes happening to Paris
  • Constantly drawn to the morgue
  • Traveled to Italy in 1844
Could not finish the notes due to the lecture being an hour long.  I have other homework due tomorrow and not enough time to do it at the moment.  I will get back to this tomorrow and finish the notes.  [Stopped at 17:46]
