I chose to read Great Expectations because I didn't really read it the first time. I kinda skimmed through it and spark noted the rest. Now, as punishment, I feel like I have to create a really good remix for the novel. That shall come at a later date. I plan to read it in bits in pieces starting tonight and extending through the latter part of the week. Over the weekend, I plan to read constantly...maybe...
1) In the original ending of Great Expectations, Pip sees Estella in London in the company of her husband and her children. Dickens was advised by a close friend that this was not how readers would want the story to end, so the ending was changed to the now published ending. Evaluate the purpose behind Charles Dickens' original ending. Which ending completes the story more fully? Which ending makes the most sense to you as the reader, and which ending most efficiently potrays the key themes of the novel? Use the text to support your response.
2)How does Dickens arouse our sympathies for certain characters?
3)What one financial request does Pip make of Miss Havisham? What does this request indicate about his character?
4)Evaluate Dickens’s portrayal of Pip. In your opinion, is Pip a believable character? Does he behave in ways that a real child in similar circumstances might behave? Support your opinion with evidence from the novel.
5) Simple Comprehension Questions
1. What happens to Pip when he's at the courtyard visiting the gravestones?
2. What does it mean that Pip has been raised "by hand"?
3. How does the shackled man respond when Pip asks him if he will save any food for his friend?
4. Why does Pip get more and more nervous as their Christmas dinner progresses?
5. Why are the soldiers outside of Pips house?
6. When Pip has to go with the soldiers to find the convicts, what does the shacked man do that surprises Pip?
7. What happens when Pip brings home the note from school?
8. What is implied about England's government when Dickens has Joe tell Pip that Mrs. Joe, being given to government, does not want him to be able to read and write?
9. How does Estella criticize Pip, and what does his reaction to her criticism reveal about Pip?
10. Pip is ashamed of his home, and is unhappy there: why doesn't he run away?

To be tested on these ideas? In my remix of course! I will find a way to include them all in the remix.
